Are you guilty of putting things off?

I love this quote!!

” Tomorrow is promised to nobody, so you’ve got to do what you can while you’re able’’ Norman Jay, DJ

Isn’t that the truth! My mum, bless her, in her wisdom lived by the ‘don’t put off until tomorrow what you can do today’ theory.

The quote is from DJ Norman Jay on BBC Breakfast and was in response to the question as to why he wrote his life story ‘Mister Good Times’ at this time.

It’s so easy to put things off because we lead busy lives, it’s not quite the right weather or we believe there will always be ‘this time next year’. Nobody knows what tomorrow , next week or next year will bring and whether you will be fit and able to do all those things you’ve always wanted to do.

This quote brings it home to me that whilst I am able I will ‘do’ rather than suffer the regret of ‘I wish I had done…’

Win Win

If you do the things you’re putting off now, you can then do other things later, it’s a win win situation which will enrich your life and boost your self worth.

What could you do?

It doesn’t have to be earth shattering, just something really simple can change your life, and quite likely someone else’s life too.

  • Take up a new hobby
  • Call a friend you’ve not spoken to for a while
  • Tidy a drawer
  • De-clutter your wardrobe – sell some old clothes you don’t wear on Ebay or take to a charity shop
  • Plan a holiday of a lifetime
  • Go to see live theatre/music
  • Start writing the book you’ve always wanted to write
  • Learn a new language
  • Look for a new job
  • Learn a new skill: ride a bike, drive a car/motorbike, ride a horse, knit, sew, cook, swim, use social media
  • Get help with something that’s holding you back: anxiety, motivation, loneliness

What am I going to do?

So, to kick off, I’m going to contact an old friend who I haven’t spoken to for far too long and have put off calling more times than I care to remember, but today’s the day!!

What will you do today that you’ve been putting off doing?

I’d be really interested to hear what you have been putting off and what you are now going to do, so please do let me know Contact
